David Sink, Jr.
N.C. Senate District 8
David Sink, a native of Lexington NC, served 31 years in the North Carolina Community College System. He was president of two colleges: Roanoke Chowan for five years and Blue Ridge for 20 years. Upon his retirement he received the Long Leaf Pine Award by the Governor of North Carolina.
A Vietnam War era veteran, he has been active in professional and civic organizations at the local, state and national level.

Tom Simmons

Having lived in Brunswick County for more than forty years, Tom Simmons understands how vital commercial fishing families and the tourism industry are to Brunswick County's economy and well-being. Simmons believes that improved education with fully funded classrooms and expanded Early Childhood Education programs as the key to future economic growth and a chance for upward mobility for its citizens.

As a former educator and retired Army Colonel, I’ve spent most of my adult life caring for people in one form or another. Because I cared about the development of children, I became an educator. Because I cared about our country, I joined the Army to serve. And, I still care, so I've made the decision to come out of retirement to serve my community and country, once again.​

Bill Flythe
Brunswick County Commission
A doctorate in Chemistry was obtained from Howard University (D.C.). Twenty years were spent in industry as a chemist and Senior Laboratory Supervisor. Fifteen years were spent in the classroom at the high school and college level. Dr. Flythe will push for increased funding of public education, oppose offshore drilling and the illegal designation of Brunswick County as a Second Amendment Sanctuary, and emphasize the need for safe schools.

Roy entered public service because he loves North Carolina and understands the challenges facing our families and communities. At home, he served as a Sunday School teacher and tutored in public schools. In the NC House and Senate, Roy fought to increase teacher pay and reduce class sizes. He wrote North Carolina’s first children’s health insurance initiative.

Roy believes every child in North Carolina deserves the same opportunities that he had – and that he wants for his own daughters.

Yvonne Lewis Holley

Representative Yvonne Lewis Holley was born in Raleigh and was part of the changing south. Early in her life, she learned the values of hard work, dedication and honor.
It was learning from her parents the importance of public service and courage that serve as motivation today. Her mother stressed the importance of education and strength while her father was a living example of community leadership. With these roots, she brings a history of reverence, hope and accountability to public service.

I am a product of NC, its school system and upbringing and southeastern culture. I love NC and its people. I grew up wanting to go to UNC, Duke, or NCSU. I spent long summer days on the tobacco farm working until dark. I went to church. I want to help the people of NC. I have been successful and I want to give back. I want to be their voice in the Congress. There are thousands of hardworking men and women that need a fair shake, not just lip service. We need to respect the value of labor. I was always told and believe a fair day’s wage for a fair day’s work. There are so many North Carolinians that struggle to get by. I want to change that.

I believe North Carolina’s next Treasurer should be a leader on the issues that matter most. We can invest responsibly in companies that expand employment opportunities across our state. We can lead the fight to protect our environment and increase equity. We can expand access to financial services for all North Carolinians. We can make our healthcare system a model for the nation. The Treasurer can do so much for our state and I am ready to get to work.

My background as a business strategy professor at Duke University, adviser to some of the world’s leading organizations, and White House economic adviser to President Obama has prepared me to do this job.

Growing up on the farm in Craven County, I had daily chores from an early age and my parents taught me the value of hard work. I became a dental assistant and worked my way through college at ECU to earn my accounting degree. I have worked as a Certified Public Accountant for 30 years, and for the past 22 years I have worked in the State Auditor’s office, including my three terms as North Carolina State Auditor. I work every day to protect all of our tax dollars.

Jen Mangrum
Superintendent of Public Instruction
Jen has spent the majority of her life in public school classrooms, and she wouldn't have it any other way. Jen's number-one priority is to protect our schools from corrosive private interests, and legislators who would deny some children their constitutional right to a free, high-quality education. For Jen, public education is nothing less than a pillar of democracy.

What drives Jenna is knowing that her work with Soil & Water, or with her nonprofit, or with international affairs, all of these things, or with the N.C. School of Science & Math, all of these things are things that make a difference.

Josh Stein
Attorney General
Between 2009 and 2016, Josh served in the state Senate and was a champion for public education, clean energy and public safety. He served on a number of committees, including the Judiciary I committee of which he was a member throughout his time in the Senate.
​
Josh and his wife Anna have been married for more than 20 years and they have three children – Sam, Adam, and Leah. He and Anna both attended North Carolina public schools, and so do their kids.

Elaine Marshall
Secretary of State
In 1996, Elaine Marshall became the first woman elected to a statewide executive branch office in North Carolina. She immediately established herself as a competent administrator with an eye toward reform. She has received national recognitions for modernizing the Secretary of State’s office by introducing up to date technology and reducing red tape.

Since taking office, Elaine has cut the costs of doing business in North Carolina—helping small businesses create jobs and enabling free enterprise and capital formation. She has led the effort to reform North Carolina’s lobbying laws. Elaine remains committed to making public information transparent and accessible to businesses, investors and individuals. Her efforts have helped make North Carolina one of the most affordable places in the United States to do business.

Jessica Holmes
Commissioner of Labor
Jessica Holmes has spent most of her professional career as an advocate for workers as a labor and employment attorney. Holmes has an undergraduate degree in Political Science from UNC-Chapel Hill and a Juris Doctor from UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law. She has a track record of supporting job creation as a county commissioner and attracting businesses with a diverse pool of talent.

I taught English for 19 years at WBHS and 11 years at SBHS. As a rookie teacher, Brunswick County gave me an opportunity to hone my skills and continued to support me as I developed my teaching and leadership abilities. Now it is my time to give back to this great school system. I have a professional working relationship with others who are seeking reelection, and I feel we could hit the floor running to improve our schools. I am running for this position because I want what every parent, teacher, support staff member, administrator, and citizen wants.....exemplary public education for all students in Brunswick County.

Insurance Commissioner
Over the past three years, the Republican-led Department of Insurance has failed everyday North Carolinians. Our insurance rates have gone up year after year, and North Carolinians no longer have the lowest average auto insurance premiums in the nation. There’s a lot of work left to be done, and I know I am up for the job.

I’ve had the opportunity to travel across North Carolina and listen to voters’ concerns over the changes that have taken place since 2016.
​
And one thing is clear: from Murphy to Manteo, people are tired of politics getting in the way of both healthcare and monetary savings for families across the state. They’re tired of #RateHikeMike.
